Reflections: Who Is Our God?
A reflection on the Wonders of Creation from Dr. Laura Payne. Laura has been involved in disability ministry for many years, and has been connected with Luke 14 Ministries since the very first Luke 14 Party! She is one of our ministry's dearest friends and most faithful supporters!
" But now, God’s Message, the God who made you in the first place, Jacob, the One who got you started, Israel: “Don’t be afraid, I’ve redeemed you. I’ve called your name. You’re mine. When you’re in over your head, I’ll be there with you. When you’re in rough waters, you will not go down. When you’re between a rock and a hard place, it won’t be a dead end— Because I am God, your personal God, The Holy of Israel, your Savior. I paid a huge price for you: all of Egypt, with rich Cush and Seba thrown in! That’s how much you mean to me! That’s how much I love you! I’d sell off the whole world to get you back, trade the creation just for you. "
Isaiah 43:1-4 (The Message)
Who is our God?
He is the God of the big blue sky even when skies are gray. He has caused floods and held the waters back to save His people. He is our Savior, our provider, our creator. All of us in Tennessee have thought about Noah in the recent nine days of rain. Noah and his family experienced 40 days of rain and it seems, at least 150 days of drying out….we may feel like it will never stop raining, but the Son will give us His light in darkness.
We know from the scriptures that our Lord is the creator of all the earth. He has always spoken through his creation. He spoke to Noah, to Job, to Jonah, to David, to Isaiah, to Jeremiah, to Elijah, and to so many. He speaks to all of us through all He has made. Jesus told the waves to be still. He asks us to be still and know that he is God in Psalm 46. In this chaotic world in which we live, nature causes us to ponder and wonder and thank Him, when we understand and when we don’t understand what is happening in our lives and in His universe.
How does the Lord speak to you through nature? Did you know all creation is groaning and will one day be set free? (Romans 8) His rainbow reminds us all of his glory and His covenant to us. (Genesis 9)
Listen to our Lord when you are awed by nature, when you are awed by His glory. In all of your seasons of life, know that our Lord loves you. Read people’s and nature’s stories in the Bible and ask the Lord to remind you of His power and purpose. Let heaven and nature sing, in every season. Remember He created you to be His gift to your world, wherever you live. (Psalm 8, Acts 17:24-28)
